Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine
a classical approach to healing the body and mind
What education does a Licensed Acupuncturist or Certified Herbalist have?
A licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac.) has received extensive education in acupuncture techniques and
diagnostics, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and safety issues surrounding acupuncture.
He or she is also proficient in other treatment modalities which may be used along with
acupuncture to treat different conditions. Click here to learn about these other Chinese medicine
therapies. Acupuncture licensure programs may last as long as four years, resulting in a Masters
of Science degree.
An acupuncturist may also choose to become a certified herbalist. Certification in Chinese
herbology follows a rigorous program emphasizing the clinical use of almost 400 different
substances, and the safety issues involved with these substances.
Licensed acupuncturists and certified herbalists who have demonstrated a high level of mastery
are certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
(NCCAOM). Jessica is a NCCAOM-certified Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (Dipl. OM).
